Penetrating Pinna Injury

20 years old gentleman alleged penetrating injury by the fragments of bamboo used to hook the oil palm stem.

Emergency management of Pinna injury

1) Arrest the bleeding.

2) Pain management

3) Early thorough debridement to remove the dirty particles

4) Stabilize the penetrating object, do not remove it

5) Early administration of antibiotic to prevent the infection.

6) If no ENT surgeon available, the object can be removed and haemostatic suture can be applied.

7) Patient then can be sent to plastic/ENT surgeon for reconstructive surgery

8) Referral to ENT surgeon if available
