This is a Ryles Tube free flow
connected to the bag which shows dark coffee ground vomitus in a patient with
history of haematemesis for three days. Haematemesis indicates upper GI bleed.
It could be either red or coffee ground. Red haematemesis indicate fresh blood
and it is more ominous. But Coffee Ground Vomitus did not means no worrisome
problem because large amount of this
substance indicate a larger hemorrhage. The coffee ground appearance is due to
the action of gastric acid and pepsin to the blood.
